October 13th – 17th
Our Hispanic Heritage events were a great success! The Spanish Language Department hosted the Hispanic Heritage Celebrations at CEA, where students will learn about the culture and customs of Hispanic nations and territories. Each grade was assigned a Hispanic nation or territory and learned about its culture, food, and customs. We began the week with our class and grade-wide celebrations, each honoring and celebrating the culture and customs of a different country/territory that their students learned about in class.
We ended with week with back Central Park performances and games for students in 1st-8th grade. Each celebration began with music, voice, and Spanish dance performances, poems, and more, featuring the Junior and Senior Voice Mastery, Senior Voice Mastery, Guitar Ensemble, Cordoba through Segovia (3rd-8th grade) Spanish Dance, and several soloists across grade levels. After the performances, students learned and played traditional Latin games, including dominoes, traditional tops or “trompo,” sack races, hula hoops, card games, and even pin the tail on the donkey. It was a perfect way tp end the week, learn about, and celebrate the richness and diversity of Hispanic culture and learn about culture and traditions.
We are beyond grateful to Mrs. Castillo, for organizing these events, and to the many teachers involved who gave their time, passion, dedication, leadership, and love to make this an educational experience and great success: Ms. Marisol Moreno, Ms. Alina Ruiz, Ms. Magaly Rodriguez, Ms. Maria Eugenia Toledo Toledo, Ms. Yirka Ledon, Ms. Laura de Mare, Ms. Mirtha de la Torre, Mr. Norman Milanes, Ms. Eglise Gutierrez, Ms. Cristina Masdueño, and Ms. Leiza Mendez.
Thank you to our volunteer parents in every grade, who brought joy, enthusiasm, helped set up and manage the games, and helped make sure everything ran smoothly!
