5th through 8th grade
Upper school is the culmination of the eleven-year process students experience at CEA and prepares students to be the leaders of their community. Our upper school is uniquely designed to meet the challenges that come with the transition into the early teen years. Students are provided the necessary continuity, structure, and reassurance required for a successful shift from childhood to adolescence. Distance learning at CEA continues to provide the structure, curriculum and support afforded in person, only within a virtual learning space. Students participate in synchronous (face-to-face) live class sessions with their teachers in each respective subject, continuing their regular block schedule model. Live class sessions are enhanced with engaging and creative asynchronous assignments and projects. Critical thinking, problem solving, resourcefulness, discourse, creativity, and development of character and passion are at the heart of all classes. All students take music, theatre, visual arts, and P.E. each week. Girls take dance and boys take fitness once a week. Participation in the Mastery Program continues twice a week.
After-school homework help time with their teachers is available for all students twice a week.
Community Norms and Guidelines
- Students are to report to class in full regular uniform, including class-specific uniforms for P.E., fitness, creative movement, dance, etc. This helps establish a sense of routine and normalcy despite the changing circumstances.
- Students should be on “mute” to reduce background noise, unless the class is engaging in a live discussion at that moment.
- Students should arrive on time to class and remain engaged during the duration of the class.
