Habits of Mind

In the next few weeks we all need to practice the habit of managing impulsivity, and what a wonderful opportunity the Festival gives us to develop this habit. Participation in something as grand as our Festival is more than an opportunity to showcase our artistic talents. As we rehearse and plan for this unforgettable event, we will all have the chance to practice thinking before we act, developing strategies to solve problems, consider alternatives and consequences for our actions, and reflection.

Consider these indicators:

  • Use wait time as an opportunity to think about what you will be doing.
  • Pay close attention in class and on the stage
  • Develop a plan for staying organized and manage time well
  • Stop and think before you talk when you’re in a group waiting
  • Stop and think before you start to play around – Is this the best place and time?

Using this habit will help insure we have a wonderful Festival, and this habit of managing impulsivity will be a gift we give ourselves that will stay with us always.

"Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together." -Vincent Van Gogh
