Lyrical classes are by invitation only and are geared toward the older and emotionally developing student.
Lyrical is not an actual technique but rather a quality of movement that calls on different styles and techniques. Various styles are combined to create a free flow of expression. This style focuses on personal interpretation and the aim is for each individual to be in touch with their own special qualities to create a sincere, unforced performance. The dancer must develop and understand his/her own inner emotions to truly express the human soul.
Lyrical classes tap into a variety of emotions and experiences. Lyrics of songs are sometimes interpreted, thus it is important that students have a maturity that includes a wide emotional vocabulary and understanding, allowing for an age-appropriate expression of various themes important to the human experience.
